Personal Statement

I am a Veterinarian with a PhD degree in Virology and have been involved in animal and  public health interventions for over 20 years through diagnosis, treatment and control of economic and zoonotic diseases. I employ epidemiological skill, classical virology and molecular diagnostic techniques in diverse and multi-disciplinary sectors ranging from industry, field and veterinary/public health laboratories in many nations.

Specifically, I have worked for five years as Company Representative and Territory Manager in Pfizer Animal health PLC and Merial-Turner Wright Ltd delivering animal health drugs and anti-infective to livestock farmers in Nigeria. I have field experience and insights on common livestock and zoonotic diseases including the needs, problems and behaviours at the human-animal interface. The last 15 years, has been devoted to laboratory diagnostic networks and control of infectious diseases of livestock and zoonoses in Nigeria, Italy, USA and Germany. I have been involved in the investigation, diagnosis and control of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) as well as Swine Influenza Virus (Pandemic influenza Virus) and other infectious diseases of high consequence such as rabies and  poxvirus infections with published outcomes.
As a virologist with linkages in the academic, I also train and mentor young professionals for the advancement knowledge, skills and practice. My networks are broad and diverse leveraging on stakeholders in the industry, institutions, governments, developmental and public health agencies including the FAO-OIE (OFFLU), WHO, CDC, EcoHealth, Physicians-Across-Continents, FMARD/DV&PCS, NAFDAC etc.

In the quest for discovery, I avail myself of research and service opportunities in multi and interdisciplinary sectors of animal and human health interventions.  Devoted to teamwork for achieving excellence and positive impact on the society through the identification, treatment and control of infectious diseases and potential pandemic infections in the concept of One Health.
