SOLAR-POWERED BOREHOLE COMMISSIONED AT NABORDO LIVESTOCK MARKET

SOLAR-POWERED BOREHOLE COMMISSIONED AT NABORDO LIVESTOCK MARKET

We are thrilled to share the successful commissioning of the Solar-Powered borehole at Nabordo Livestock Market, Toro LGA, Bauchi State. This important milestone is part of the collaborative project between The Pirbright Institute (TPI) and the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Vom on “Controlling Transboundary Animal Disease Spread in Livestock Markets: A Pilot Intervention Study.”

During the commissioning, Dr. Maryam Muhammad, Director/Chief Executive of NVRI Vom, highlighted the importance of the solar-powered borehole in curbing the spread of zoonotic and Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs) in livestock markets. She explained that the project is part of NVRI's mission to enhance hygiene and disease control, supported by five years of research across 9 markets. Additionally, 30 Community Animal Health Workers in Bauchi State have been trained to address these health challenges effectively.

Dr. Muhammad thanked local leaders for their support and acknowledged that the borehole will serve both the market and the wider community, alleviating water scarcity and enhancing sanitation.

This intervention is a testament to NVRI’s commitment to improving animal and public health while uplifting local communities. Together, with the support of our partners, we are driving positive change in Nigeria’s livestock sector.

A special thank you to all stakeholders who made this possible!
